These figures show the direction of the Chinese battery market behind future EV supply. They do not tell an existing BYD Han in Europe how fast it will charge, how far it will go, or whether somebody can service it properly.
The useful part is the scale and the battery split. The limit is just as important: CPCA reports installations in China, not a charging update for cars already on European roads.
How big was China’s battery-installation market in August?
CPCA says domestic power-battery installations reached 79.0 GWh in August, with 5.9% month-on-month growth and 26.3% year-on-year growth. CPCA attributes the data in its item to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance.
That is a large number, but it needs its condition attached. It is battery capacity installed in China during August. It is not battery production, battery exports, sales of one manufacturer, or usable capacity in any individual car.
CPCA also reports 489.1 GWh of cumulative domestic installations from January through August, up 17.0% year on year.
Are lithium iron phosphate batteries still dominant in China?

CPCA says lithium iron phosphate installations grew 7.0% from the previous month in August, while ternary installations fell 1.0% month on month. For the January–August period, CPCA reports lithium iron phosphate at 82.3% of the total and ternary batteries at 17.5%.
Do China’s battery figures make an existing BYD Han charge faster?
No. CPCA’s August figures describe battery installations in China, and they do not give a charging curve, charging power, software update, service procedure, or retrofit for an existing BYD Han in Europe.
This is where market data can become a bit misleading. A growing installation number can tell us that the battery market is moving somewhere. It cannot tell us that a car already built for another market will suddenly charge differently because the market behind newer cars has grown.
For the practical question of what the Han does on a motorway, the real BYD Han motorway range post is more useful than any national installation total. A battery-market figure is context. It is not a promise at the charging station.
What do the August figures say about future EV supply?
CPCA’s figures suggest that lithium iron phosphate batteries remain the much larger part of domestic battery installations in China, at 67.6 GWh in August versus 11.0 GWh for ternary batteries. CPCA also reports faster year-on-year growth for lithium iron phosphate installations: 31.0%, compared with 0.9% for ternary batteries.
That can matter when looking at future Chinese EV supply, because battery chemistry is not a small detail hidden under the floor. But the CPCA item does not explain why buyers or manufacturers made those choices, and it does not predict what any future model will cost, how it will charge, or where it will be sold.
So I would keep the conclusion modest. The market is heavily weighted toward lithium iron phosphate installations. Everything beyond that needs another source.
Why battery market growth does not solve European ownership
CPCA reports domestic Chinese battery-installation data, not parts availability, repair training, European charging performance, or support for imported cars. Those are separate ownership questions, and this particular item does not answer them.
That is not a criticism of the figures. It is simply what they are.
A monthly market total is useful if you want to see the direction of new-car supply in China. If you own an existing car in Europe, the immediate questions remain much less glamorous: what battery is in the car, what charging hardware it has, what software it runs, and whether the local support network can deal with it when something goes wrong.
